“Perhaps the largest and most pleasant surprise I
experienced in the research of this guide was my tasting
of the two Warrenmang shirazes from 2004. These are
naturally robust wines of remarkable, searing fruit
intensity. The Black Puma is simply robust and alluring
while the ‘standard’
Shiraz
carries less weight but delivers deliciously wild,
briary and peppery shiraz character. It is marvelous to
see this mature vineyard live up to its potential.”

“A sumptuous, exceptionally concentrated
and harmoniously constructed shiraz of
remarkable depth and longevity. Wild ripe and
briary, its dense and alluringly complex aromas
of violets, dark berries and plums are supported
by cedar/vanilla oak. Black and brooding, its
rich palate is lavishly coated with firm,
powerful tannins. While its oak is perhaps a
little basic, this wine will develop very well
thanks to the sheer brightness, intensity and
penetration of its fruit.”

Pyrenees
Current Vintage: 2004
“A firm, long-term and rustic
shiraz likely to develop, gamey complexity.
Finely crafted, its intense perfume of sweet
dark berries, plums and violets reveals,
meaty, spicy and sage like undertones, plus
a whiff of black pepper. Its searingly
intense and vibrant fruit and polished
cedary oak influences overlie a firm, drying
backbone of powerdery tannin.”
